History of Bromma Stone

It was 1963 when Jerzy Bromma, less than 30 years old, made his first stone work. He did it in a backyard shed after working hours in a concrete plant.

“A stonemason used to come to the concrete plant to buy various scraps from us. He inspired me” – recalls the senior founder, strolling around the premises.

The first tombstone, and later others, were created by trial and error. After a year, Jerzy, supported by his wife Małgorzata, was ready to start his own business and set up Zakład Kamieniarski Jerzy Bromma. The beginnings were difficult. The professional machinery was scarce. Until the 1970s, the basis of equipment was various makeshift machines which required a lot of manual labour and creativity. These machines were based on parts of agricultural machinery, trucks, etc. At that time, terrazzo, which is concrete made from a mixture of cement, grit and water, was the only material that could be worked with. It was used not only for gravestones, but also for stairs, window sills and floors.

From the very beginning, Jerzy Bromma’s stonemasonry workshop was a family business in the full sense of the word. From an early age, his son Edward learnt the trade and helped his parents, and in 1998 he and his wife Anita joined the family business. This is how the company Bromma Granit was founded. It dealt in particular with the production of tombstones. Just two years later, a new outlet at the cemetery in Opole Półwieś (closed in 2014 in favour of a new location) was added to the still modernised plant in Kąty Opolskie.

Edward, a master stonemason just like his father, inspired his sons with his passion for the profession. Tobiasz and Daniel used to earn pocket money in the family business during the summer holidays. Eventually, Tobiasz graduated in mechatronics at the Wrocław University of Technology and followed that career path while Daniel, a production engineer graduate from the Opole University of Technology, joined the family business.

“I knew the material, the production techniques, but I was also very interested in technological innovations, in design programmes. The main part of our work, the manufacture of tombstones, was well developed and managed by my father. However, there was huge development potential in construction stonemasonry” – emphasises Daniel Bromma.

In 2010, a separate company, Bromma Stone, was established. In 2011, the company strongly expanded its machinery in Kąty Opolskie, which is now the most modern in the Opole region. Daniel Bromma, a keen designer in AutoCAD, has specialised in CNC machine control and is constantly bringing technical innovations to the company. As a result, Bromma Stone has been able to develop the production of very precise and beautiful products such as kitchen and bathroom worktops, stairs, window sills, shower trays, washbasins, flooring, cladding and fireplace surrounds. “The automation of the work produces excellent results. Precise measurements and specialised machinery make it possible to make products of different sizes and specifications. Something that is too difficult for others to do, Bromma Stone performs easily” – he claims.

2015 saw the opening of a modern showroom at ul. Budowlanych 11 in Opole. This is an important location from a market point of view, where you can see examples of natural stone applications such as kitchen worktops, window sills, stairs, wall coverings and floors. Customers can also see samples of materials – granites, marbles, quartz sinters, quartz conglomerates.

The company is gradually expanding and hiring more and more employees. Currently, 10 people, nine of them in production. Daniel’s son, who is a few years old, enjoys visiting his dad at work and is very fond of stacking and throwing pebbles. He seems to be growing into the next stonemason.

Bromma Stone puts quality and customer satisfaction first. That is why every order is treated individually, whether small or large.
